Labour and Plaid Cymru plan to to derail ‘privatisation’ of probation service

Labour and Plaid Cymru will today attempt to derail the UK Government’s planned changes to how probation services are carried out across the country in protest at proposals to give responsibilities to private companies.

The rival opposition parties fear this would put the public at unnecessary risk and claim the proposals have neither been piloted nor independently evaluated.

The parties will attempt to use an amendment to stop the Offender Rehabilitation Bill getting a second reading in the House of Commons because the measures “depend on the Government’s proposed restructuring of the Probation Service”.
