TUC Decent Jobs Week 15-21 December

The TUC is planning a week of campaign activities calling for an end to the growth in casualisation and the exploitation of zero-hours contract workers, agency workers, those on short-hours contracts and others forms of insecure work.  Decent Jobs Week starts today

The campaign will raise awareness of the millions of workers in the UK who are trapped in low paid, insecure jobs and who are failing to benefit from the recovery. Women and young workers are particularly affected.   The week will also highlight the growing casualisation amongst professions such as lecturers, teachers, health workers and the entertainment sector. The campaign calls for:

  • Improved rights for zero hours contract workers
  • All workers should enjoy the same rights, including family friendly rights, redundancy pay and protection from unfair dismissal
  • Equal pay for agency workers through the removal of the so-called “Swedish derogation”
  • Better enforcement of workplace rights for low paid, vulnerable workers
  • Better access for workers to union representation and collective bargaining
