Demand justice for Colombian trade unionist

UNISON is urging members to sign a petition demanding justice for Colombian trade unionist Huber Ballesteros, one of the country’s best known human rights activists.

The petition was launched jointly by the union and Justice for Colombia yesterday – on UN Human Rights Day – to demand the unconditional release of Mr Ballesteros and all other political prisoners in Colombia.

Mr Ballesteros is vice president of Colombia’s second largest union, Fensuagro, which has seen more than 1,000 menbers assinated in recent years.

He was arrested on 25 August 2013 and accused of “rebellion” and “financing terrorism”.

He has still not faced trial.

The petition attracted more than 5,000 signatures in less than 24 hours when it was launched on Human Rights Day – but we still need more people to sign it and demand justice for Huber.
