ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

The Northwest Probation & CAFCASS branch of unison send our support and solidarity to our fellow members as they prepare to take strike action on the 10th July

local Government and school support staff are predominantly low paid workers, mainly women and a high proportion are part time. Half a million earn less than the Living Wage and a further half million are below even the Government’s definition of low pay. The lowest-paid council staff barely receive the statutory National Minimum Wage.

Frozen public sector pay impacts on thousands of households in the North West, with knock-on effects to local economies across the region.

UNISON members have now voted by a clear majority for strike action over pay. They have been pushed into this after years of pay freezes and below inflation awards. The real value of local government pay has fallen by a staggering 20% since 2010.

Industrial action is a last resort for our members. But in the absence of a decent offer by the employers, and their refusal of further talks on a fair pay deal for local government and school support workers, then quite simply enough is enough.”
