BOLTON TUC PRESS RELEASE : Blacklisting of Trade Unionist

Blacklisting

Bolton TUC have welcomed a commitment by Bolton Council (17/04/2013) to a motion opposing the blacklisting of trade unionists.

Martin McMulkin, Secretary of Bolton TUC said “We are pleased Bolton Council has given full support to the motion on blacklisting. Hundreds of trade unionists in Bolton and across the region have been victims of secret blacklists used by unscrupulous employers over the years. This has blighted areas such as construction with hundreds of workers barred purely for trade union activities.

The right to be in a trade union and the right of trade unions to organise in the workplace are fundamental human rights. Thankfully there are now legal powers in place to tackle employers who are found to operate secret blacklists.
