UNISON to ballot probation members on action over pay

UNISON probation members in England and Wales are to be balloted on industrial action after management failed to substantially improve their 0% pay ‘offer’.

The ballot timetable is still to be finalised, but will be announced shortly, for members working for both the National Probation Service and the new, outsourced “community rehabilitation companies”.

Earlier this year, 96% of members taking part in a consultation over the employers’ 2014 pay offer of 0% voted to reject it.

In response, the employers have now put forward a “full and final offer” of a non-consolidated £340 lump some to “eligible staff” – which means just those who are at the top of their pay band.

Because the lump sum is not being consolidated into salaries, it will not count towards pensions.

The union described the employers’ position as “a slap in the face”.

We urge members to vote yes to industrial action, in order to bring the employers back to the negotiating table with an improved offer.
