It is clear that this government is determined to destroy the NHS by selling it off bit by bit.

In Staffordshire, they have embarked on the biggest procurement process involving £1.2bn of taxpayers money – a dangerous experiment that could see the privatisation of vital cancer care and end-of-life services in the area.

So it is heartening that last week – and 78 years after the original Jarrow march to parliament – a group of mothers from Darlington set off from Jarrow to London to protest against the privatisation of the NHS.

Bevan said the NHS will last as long as there are folk left with the faith to fight for it. The Jarrow marchers have already inspired millions and their tenacity and determination to protect and fight for the NHS is admirable.

In the last leg of their march, the Darlington mothers will need as much support as possible. By then, they would have walked 300 miles, through 23 towns and cities.

So UNISON are calling on everyone to join them in the last few miles to the Houses of Parliament where they will share their stories with politicians.

Fight for the NHS and support the Jarrow marchers.

They need your wholehearted support.
